1. Celebrate Heritage.  February is Greek-American Heritage Month, Black History Month, founding of the Georgia colony, and Mardi Gras.

  • February 1 - 21: Celebrate Black Heritage Festival in Savannah. The African-American heritage events will take place at various venues. Most offer free admission. 

  • February 12, 1773: The colony of Georgia was founded as a British settlement.  On that date James Edward Oglethorpe and more than 100 colonists unloaded their ship, the Anne, and settled in present day Savannah.  During the Georgia History Festival's Super Museum Sunday, February 8, 2015, over 40 cultural institutions, historic sites, house museums, art museums, and other points of interest in Savannah and coastal Georgia will open their doors to the public free for free admission -- 12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
